Looking to the Right and Left
20 years from now, people are going to ask you, “What did you do during the Corona virus quarantine?” What story do you want to tell?
We just skipped town and lived it up.
We were so scared we stayed home until we got down to our last square of toilet paper and then we went to 3 stores and finally there was a whole box – the last box. God provided!
Or do you want to say, “That was the first time in a long time that I realized God was in control. It was the greatest weeks of my life!”
I went up and down my street and gave my phone number to all my neighbors. This led to helping an elderly couple by doing their shopping & then when we ran out of toilet paper we got some from another neighbor.
I called 5 people twice a week and one of them became one of the best friendships I ever had.
I helped watch a hospital worker’s kids and gave a pint of blood when it was needed most.
I want to say, “I made a difference. I served God and I saw a spiritual harvest like I’ve never been a part of before.” Isn’t that what we all really want, deep down? I’ve always been drawn to adventure. I read about adventures in books and make up adventure stories to tell my children. In an adventure you slay the monster, fight for freedom, save the lives of others, and make a difference. My heart yearns for that. Every bone in my body wants to be a part of that. So often we satisfy that desire with video games, sports contests or business ventures. But there is an adventure right here, right now that God is inviting you to be a part of. There is a treasure God wants you to take hold of. It is the treasure and an adventure of saving and helping everlasting, eternal beings – people. It’s the adventure of changing the world one life at a time.
Change people and you change everything.
So here’s my thought.
Every small group leader calls everyone in your small group twice a week & asks 2 questions: 1. Do you need anything? 2. How can I pray for you? Then you need to challenge everyone in your small group to call 5-non family members twice a week and ask those same questions. (By “non-family” I just mean your immediate family. Some of you are related to everyone!) 1 week from today, ask each of your small group members for the names of who they have been calling & e-mail or text those names to your campus Pastor and Champion.
Another thing I will be doing is making a little card (HERE) and taking it to at least 5 neighbors. The goal is not for me to help everyone. The goal is for us to facilitate our neighbors in helping each other. There are a lot of people right now who want to do SOMETHING. They just need to know how. Plug in your info and hand them out in your neighborhood. Challenge any able-bodied neighbor who you know or who contacts you, regardless of their spiritual condition, to reach out to 5 more neighbors in the same way. This is not a Bridgewater program. This is a loving-your-neighbor program. I think someone 2000 years ago told us to do that…
Look to your left and right and jump into God’s adventure!
